How to Store a Leather Bag

Empty and lightly support the bag

Remove heavy objects before storage. Use clean, acid-free tissue or a soft cotton cloth to support the body without stretching it. Do not overfill a soft hobo bag into a rigid shape it would not naturally hold.

Use a breathable dust bag

A fabric dust bag protects the surface while allowing airflow. Avoid tightly sealed plastic for long-term storage because trapped humidity can encourage odour or mildew. Make sure the leather is completely dry before putting it away.

Keep straps relaxed

Do not hang a filled leather bag from its strap for long periods. The weight can pull on attachment points and create a permanent bend. Lay the strap in a natural curve and protect metal hardware from pressing into the leather.

Choose a stable environment

Store leather away from direct sun, heaters and damp walls. A cool, dry cupboard with normal household airflow is usually suitable. Check the bag occasionally, especially through humid seasons.
